OUR STORY

4th Generation Family-Owned Business

Our roots in the Horticulture Industry date back to the 1920's when Ralph Fisher started his flower shop, Ralph Fisher's Florists, in Brooklyn, New York. Ralph's daughter Marguerite followed her parents footsteps and started her own flower shop, Flowers by Marguerite, in Merrick, New York. After establishing her business Marguerite moved to Somerset, New Jersey where she opened Henning's Flower Fair. This was larger property with an upgraded store front and greenhouses to supplement the shop. Marguerite and her husband Henry Henning had 6 children who all helped out in the family business. Henry and Alan Henning would eventually take over the family business until their retirement in the early 2000's. Adam Henning, the youngest of the 6, wanted to continue with the family business but knew there was not room for a 3rd owner. In 1987 Adam and Jill Henning purchased what is now Henning's Farm and Greenhouses from Fred Molenar. Fred started the farm in the 1950's after serving in World War II. Fred mostly grew vegetables and eventually put up some greenhouses to grow flowers in. Adam and Jill continued to grow vegetables for a couple seasons until they were able to transition to just growing flowers. Now over 35 years later the bussiness has grown to over 40,000 sq. ft. of greenhouses and 15 acres of mum production space. Quinten is the next generation to take over and hopes to continue growing the family business so he too can pass it down to the next generation.
